And supremely confident, precise handling from having the best overall stiffness in its class. Ocho is different. And in a sport ruled by incremental gains, that makes a big difference. My trust lefty on a 2005 Jekyll finally gave up the ghost completely. It will cost me significantly more than the bike is worth to get a new lefty. I can get a Rock Shox Revelation with a tapered steer tube quite cheaply. By my logic (which is often flawed.) all I need is a new headset to fit the tapered fork and a new stem. I already have a front QR wheel that will work with the fork. So heres my question; am I oversimplifying this Also, is the headtube a 1.5 diameter I think I can get a headset that will reduce the top of the headtube to the 1 18 of the top of the fork and reduce the bottom of the headset to accommodate the fork taper. Has anybody made this conversion before Any recommendations on headsets Thanks. Im not sure what lefty model you have but this may be an option. Search for the thread Good news for older Lefty owners (i would post a link but i dont meet the 10 posts requirement to be able to so) -To answer your questions: No the headtube is not 1.5; its slightly larger and unfortunately requires a reducer headset. I would say try a couple of things. Have you looked for a used lefty (what size are you currently running (i have a recently rebuilt lefty max 140 from my 2005 prophet that I might be willing to part with). Contact mendon cycles. Granted, my SID has a straight 1 18 steerer but here is what I have found in my research. The inside diameter of a LeftyHeadshock frame fits a 1.5 headset fine. You either need to use the reducer kits available that resize your OEM headset keeping in mind they usually alter your stack height. Or what I would do, though a little pricier, is just get a new headset designed for 1.5 headtubes and the steerer diameter(s) of your choice. Cannondale 29Er Lefty Fork Full Insertion OfSome of Cannondales frames have machined steps in them that can prevent full insertion of most standard depth headsets. Even with a tapered steerer, your application should be an easy one. I went with a FSA Orbit DL 1.5R reducer headset and it all went together like gravy. Good luck. Whats dead about it The things are like cockroaches honestly, cant freakin kill em. I just spent 6 months on a Fox Talas and just couldnt get it to match the performance the Lefty had given me. You could also send it to Mendon and get a professionals opinion on repair. He rebuilt one for me couple years ago and the price was quite reasonable. At that price, I cant justify it for how little the bike is worth. I can get a screaming deal on a Revelation from a colleague, hence the interest in the conversion. However, if I could get a used one or actually get this one rebuilt for a reasonable cost that would be ideal.
